In-Line water filter
Not sure what is causing my water filter to "back off" and fall.
I have the KW1 in line water canister. I screwed it in with a gasket, You can stand in front of the filter and watch it unscrew itself, Not my first time changing filters with this system, but today i was about to take a hammer to it.
Any idea's? push comes to shove i will remove it and just use the one on the water line.
If it matters, when it does fall off, the water is both cold and warm slightly hot, I do have hot water and proper presure from the hot water faucets

I removed mine and use the inline filters. Best thing I ever did. So much easier to winterize and less hastle.
They vibrate loose when driving I think. I used to keep the wrench connected to it against the wall. A little tape to hold it up and the wall kept it from unscrewing.
Good luck!

many people have just bypassed or removed that filter, especially because it may fail and it is usually in an inaccessible location...
if it fails when you are not in the trailer it will cause more problems with a wet floor then just having a mess to clean up
lots of previous threads on this forum complaining about this particular filter
PLUS I don't believe the original filter ever used a gasket...
I also used an inline filter from amazon or Wally world

Which version of the filter do you have?
The one with threads or the one with locking teeth?

Do a search on here about those, many many issues with them and many of us have yanked it out and bypassed and use an outdoor filter instead.

Lots of stories of people hearing a bang and the filter falls and water is running everywhere, and you are scrambling to get a quick access to it, perhaps in middle of night. Or worse, it happens when you are outside and not realize it.

i also have the one with the locking teeth. i don't think they actually lock until you pressurize the water system which forces the canister down in the holder and engages the teeth. but i may be wrong. there have been a few threads where people twisted the canister off while still under pressure and broke the teeth off. look carefully at the top of the canister to see if your can find any damage.
the original canister with the teeth has been replaced with a new version that simply uses screw in threads. but it requires both a new canister and a holder to be installed to replace the holder with the locking teeth.
luckily ours is in the outside water bay so access to it is not a problem.

I believe the first generation of the KW1 filter housing had problems because the canister has to be turned to a certain position in order to have the teeth engage. I think there was an arrow on the canister but I could be wrong.
Like others I’ve removed the factory filter housing and use an aftermarket whole-house style housing and filter outside. I wasn’t worried it would break. The problem is that the factory usually installs them in a location that’s a pain to get to.

Not only do you have to align the arrow but you have to lock the teeth by pulling down on the canister once in alignment.
DO NOT depend on pressure to do the locking for you. It will turn and blow off.
Same when you go to remove the canister. You need to relieve the pressure, push up on the canister to unlock the teeth and then turn about a 1/4 turn to remove.
If you even once removed the canister incorrectly using the wrench, without first unlocking the teeth, you almost assuredly broke/damaged the locking teeth on either the canister or the housing or both and water pressure will turn it and blow off the canister.
The first photo shows the teeth on the canister.
The second one shows the alignment arrows.
(aligned incorrectly!)
