Leave water in the toilet or no?
Newbie RV question here. When I'm done camping for the weekend, what is the proper way to leave the toilet? Completely empty of water or a little water left in it? Note that I am talking about the toilet itself, not the black tank.

Leave water in the toilet to keep the rubber seal from drying out on the flapper.
Maybe a little more than normal just in case of evaporation.
If you return after awhile, and there’s no water in the bowl, you know it’s not sealing properly.

We always leave some water in bowl so rubber seal doesn’t dry out. Also, we use Thetford's RV Toilet Seal Lube & Conditioner to keep rubber seal conditioned when RV not in use.

Exactly what the other guys said.....and while on that topic, when you winterize it in the fall, keep some rv antifreeze in the bowl over the winter for the exact same reason.

You could also just put some RV antifreeze in the bowl since it does not evaporate like water.

If or when the seal starts to leak you can use some plumbers silicone grease on it. Never any petroleum products. I put olive oil in mine when it's going to sit for extended periods.

We use the same toilet bowl cleaner product that we use in the house...Toilet Duck.

Is the bowl plastic or porcelain? Plastic can stain and nothing we've tried will clean it...not even soaking with straight bleach based cleaners. 
After dealing with plastic once my DW insists the toilet bowl is porcelain. We use the same cleaner as at home.

Sorry I should have clarified that in my previous post....our bowl is porcelain as well....much much better than the plastic!

From personal experience (1 time), too much water in the bowl will have you cleaning your bathroom when you arrive at your destination. I would only leave about an inch or two of water in the bowl. Alabama has some rough roads and you will get some good sloshing around of water in the bowl. Always keep a little in over the opening to protect the seal.

Water In The Toilet
ALWAYS! The seal will dry out and begin to leak.. I store my trailer at home, and check the tole regularly.

Not only will it keep the seal lubed; a little water will create a barrier so that any smells cannot come through the toilet from the holding tank. That one is straight out of the Dometic toilet brochure.

Toilet not holding anymore.
Our RV is only like 8 months old and we have always kept some water a inch or two in the bowl. Well now that water is leaking out within 20 minutes or so. The rubber seal shows no signs of cuts or deep scratches .
Any ideas to help me?

Also the thing that nobody mentioned is: You must leave water in bowl to prevent smells. There is no P trap in a RV like home. The water is the only thing keeping smells from rising.
PS. Also don’t turn on fan when flushing. You’ll know why the first time you forget. ��

Does anyone still put plastic wrap over their toilets? Back in the day, my parents would always leave water or antifreeze (season depending) in the commode and put plastic wrap over the bowl. My dad told me it was to help keep the water from evaporating. Whatever water did, collected on the plastic and dripped back into the bowl. Also would keep the smell out should the water drain through the seal. Did this in the vacation home too.

I've never heard of this.
In the summer I'm not away from my trailer long enough to worry about it and I've never had the AF evaporate in the winter.
