Need that Black Tank Recipe
Heading to seasonal and will be de-winterizing and hooking up sewer, etc.
I read about a recommended prep for the black tank using dish washer soap, laundry soap, and water....should have written it down but didn't. Can anyone please share that "recipe"? It's supposed to keep things cleaner.
Thank you in advance for your replies. Leaving in 2-3 hours.

The Geo Method????
- Calgon Water Softener -> This stuff helps to break down water surface tension, clean scum and prevent hard mineral deposits. I’ve used Borax on occasion when I can’t find Calgon and find it works just as well.
- Dawn Dishwasher Detergent -> The “original formula” blue detergent is excellent at cutting grime. Laundry detergent works too.
After you dump pour 1 cup of Calgon and 1 cup detergent into the tanks. Leave them in until your next dump. Before driving some RVers will also throw a bag of ice-cubes down the tank to “scour” their walls (we’ve never done this, but others swear by it)
I add a gallon of warm water if using the calgon powder. If using the calgon liquid I use a couple of capfuls and mix it all in the toilet and then flush.

So, it's not Calgan dish washer soap?
If I can't find Calgon water softener, how much borax do I use?

Walmart usually has Calgon water softener but they don't carry a big stock of it. Ask a clerk if you don't see it on the shelf. Our Walmart has it in the laundry section.

Here's also a helpful hint.
Some campers maybe yours maybe not, the drain pipe is a few feet long before it gets to outlet valve.
What this means is if you dump tank empty then add "Recipe" and a gallon of water it all sits in he outlet pipe and never in tank.
You want to consider adding several gallons of water then adding recipe with another gallon of water.
I mix mine in an ice cream bucket with hot water then dump into tank that I've added 2 gallons to already.

It makes sense to add the water at the start to mix things up.

So, it's one cup each of Calgon Water Softener and Laundry Detergent with several gallons of water to start. Is that correct? If I can't find water softener, use borax? Right?

Well, if it won't hurt and it's not too much, I will. Some threads include bleach....what's your take on that?

I found out that about 2 cups of Super Clean and 2 gal of water works great also. Breaks up the junk and makes the tank slick. Tried it in FL this last winter and I think when the tank empties, it starts flowing clear water a little faster when using the tank flusher. Just my opinion.

I have read that chlorine is bad for gaskets and seals so I don't use it. I use the softener, detergent, and a black tank chemical. I put the chemical in to help break down solids. The last thing I want is a problem with the black tank. I'm sure your dealer's service department feels the same way.
