New RV - Basin Caulk Missing?

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up my new Forester and I noticed that in the shower, where the sidewall meets the floor of the drain basin, there is no caulk sealing the sidewall to the the basin. In fact, it's sort of loose. Loose enough so that where the wall bows out I can push it in a little and it pops back out. After taking my first shower, I can see that without caulk, water will certain get underneath.

Should this be caulked or is it like this by design? If the later, what is the thinking on designing it this way?

If my memory serves me right, our old RV was the same way. What I found is that the lower pan as a lip that the side walls went over. Our shower pan had to be replaced by the dealer under a warranty item and they too did no caulk where the sides and the pan met.

Had that RV for over 10 years with the whole family using it.....never an issue.

Our camper is the same. I was told by our service department that, by no means, seal that gap. The explanation given to us is that there is no sealant applied in order for the wall behind the shower to “breathe”. Especially if it is an exterior wall.

My last camper, not a FR product was the same.

And I thought the same as you at first. Carry on and enjoy camping! This is not a worry.

Same in our 2014 3051S - no caulking and all good.

Does look strange though and I did the same search when we picked up the coach [emoji3]

That is left without caulking to allow for condensation to be released/dried. The basin has a lip that goes up behind the wall, to keep water out.

Thanks so much for the responses, everyone! Glad to know it wasn't an oversight or anything.
