Newbie Hot Water

2005 Surveyor. Can not get hot water running. Gas, heater lights runs for a few minutes and shuts off. No hot water. Is there a by-pass valve somewhere for the hot water heater that I need to turn on? Opened tank drain and get not water or very little but do get some air.

Open the valve like so.



Turn on water till NO air remains, try for hot water again after closing valve.

Sounds like the bypass valve(s) are still in winter mode. Check these threads for more help in the position and locating them:
