No bypass valve

Hello.

I have a brand new Cottage model with a State 20 gallon electric water heater. It appears there is no bypass valve to isolate cold flow in and hot out. Am I missing something?

You do have a bypass system installed. The horizontal blue line is the bypass. By changing the valves on the ends the water either flows through the water heater or bypasses it. In this photo I cannot see a hose for injecting RV antifreeze into the system. The valve on the right is the supply.

Is this photo turned on its side? To me, it looks like the top of the heater is on the left side of the photo. It looks like you are drawing your hot water from the bottom of the heater. If it is sideways, the hot is out the top.

I have not hot water and it seems to me with no valve on the bypass then the cold water at 40 psi will always overcome the hot outlet line that has to overcome the hydrostatic weight.

Turn the bottom valve 1/4 turn to left so water goes only in bottom of water heater tank. Hope that is it.

It looks to me like you're half way bypassed.

You want the water coming in at the bottom to go up, rather than into the tank. Looks like that's already done.

Then you want the water going up to be blocked from going into the tank. To do that, twist the valve on the red line 90 degrees.

Once that is done, water comes in on white hose, flows up the blue hose and the out the black hose, thereby bypassing the hot water tank.

I should have been more clear. I do not have hot water and without a valve in the middle I never will. Am I wrong?

No turn valve 1/4 turn at bottom: that is a 3 way valve.

There are different bypass valve configurations. You're stuck the type you had before.
Some have 2 valve, 3 valve or 4 valve.
Yours have 3 way valves, not 2 way.
I believe we have a detailed file, on bypass valves, in the Forum Library.

+ 1 to Fonzie. My instructions will allow you to grt to bypass / winter mode. Fonzie's instructions will allow water to flow in and out of the water heater / summer mode.

As configured in the picture, its a mix between the two.

The top valve on the hot water outlet is nothing more than a 1/4 turn shutoff valve. The bottom valve on the cold water inlet is a 3-way valve.
