on 'city' water but fresh water tank keeps filling

My friend has a 2017 Heartland Pioneer RD210

simply stated, the problem is:
On 'city' water but for some odd reason the fresh water tank keeps filling
How can I alleviate that?

Been ongoing since last Sunday - i accidental flipped the pump switch on while cleaning. It was only on for 2 sec, but it seems like that may have started the problem. Everything was peachy prior to that (been at this RV Park close to a yr. - always on 'city' water)

Seems like I have tried just about everything logical, to no avail. I've been scouring posts for help and yesterday the park mgr and I took out the SHURflo 4008 & very gently cleaned it. It looked new!! Put everything back and turned on the city water again in hopes it would handle the sucking. Took a couple of hours before I was able to see (on the tank gauge) that the Fresh tank was at 1/3.

Anyone have any ideas?? 😭

I had that problem after I accidently turned on the pump while connected to city water. Seems the backflow valve in the pump stuck open allowing city water to flow into the tank. I turned off city water and ran the pump until nearly all the fresh water was pumped out of the tank then turned off the pump. That cured the problem.

This is very common. A lot of folks have put a shutoff valve in the line between the pump and FW tank. I can reach my valve under the sink making it easy to open the line when using the FW tank.

Do a search for "fresh tank filling when on city water". Very common issue. You'll have lots of reading.

Agreed with what’s stated above. Turn off from city water and run off of water pump until fresh is empty. Allows the check valve to seat back in

Shut off city water
open faucet until water stops
shut off faucet

turn on water pump
open faucet and run water for a minute
shut off faucet
when pump stops turn off pump
turn on city water
This will reseat back flow valve. Do not run pump when city water on.

I installed a separate check valve on the pump and never had another incident.

On 'city' Water But Fresh Water Tank Keeps Filling

Happened to me a couple times and all I had to do was turn off city water and cycle the pump a couple time. There is a check valve in the pump that is supposed to prevent this and it seems that it gets stuck open or partly open sometimes after using the pump. If that doesn't fix it it is probably time to replace the pump or put in a manual shutoff valve.

No one has said anything about using a "water pressure regulator " on the city water side to "Prevent High water pressure Damage to the Pump "! This damage could have happened at a Prior location but just now "Rearing it's Ugly Head"! Youroo! ! Louisiana!

Don't need to replace the pump as it is still working, according to the OP.

Just get one of these at Camping World or other RV parts supplier and be done with it! (see photos below)

Five minutes and under $15 bucks and you are done!

To the OP...

As has been mentioned, just turn off city water and run off of the fresh tank and water pump until you can put in this check valve.
