Outside Water Heater On-Off Switch Bypass

I've seen the thread on how to install a new 120V outlet with a light for the water heater. Mine seems to be hardwired so that won't work. Is there any way to bypass the outside on-off toggle switch and bring it inside and replace it with an illuminated switch? How do I access the wires to the outside toggle switch...from the outside or from the inside?
Any ides?

You need to wire a switch in line between the WH and the 120V breaker in the control panel. You should be able to trace the wiring run at least from the breaker end. Disconnect the wiring at the breaker and wire that to one side of the switch...run new wiring from the other side of the switch to the breaker. You're limited to the switch location being reachable/accessible with the existing wiring from the WH.
