Pulsing water pump

My Shurflo water pump is pulsing off and on every second or so. I cannot find a water leak. I have added a check valve downstream from the pump. Is there an internal check valve that could be leaking and causing this? Any other suggestions

Yes, there is a check valve built into the pump head.

Not sure why you added the the check valve but if you were trying to keep the fresh tank from backfilling (because the pump's internal check valve is leaking) then the consensus is to put the inline check valve on the suction side of the pump. This will also stop the pump from cycling when the pressure then bleeds off back to the fresh tank. (because the pump's internal check valve is leaking)

Thanks 5picker. Yes the valve was added to prevent backfilling the freshwater tank. It worked fine all last season but may be an issue now. I will see about moving it. Can the internal valve be removed and cleaned without major disassembly?
Thanks

Shurflo has pump rebuild kits for many pumps. Google the pump model number.

Does it pulse when a tap is open as well as when all taps are closed?

It ran steady with an open tap.

PROBLEM RESOLVED

I followed 5pickers advice and moved the check valve to the input side of the pump and problem was resolved. Strange that it worked fine all last year but failed now.

Can you remove the pump? Take the pump part off from the motor part. Start taking it apart and you will see a triangle shaped rubber diaphragm. Note: the screw in the center of the bullet nose is an adjuster screw so do not remove that. Check for debris caught in this. Debris like plastic shavings from new tank can get stuck and the pump leaks water back to the tank. This is easy fix.
Take pics of the wires before removing them cause you will forget.

You can try adjusting the adjuster screw also to lower the pressure the pump holds, but I doubt this is it. Sometimes people get helpful and tighten that screw thinking it came loose.
