Pump water comes out the City water inlet

When I turn on my fresh water pump, it pumps water out the city water inlet onto the ground. I'm aware of the backflow valve on the pump, but there must be a backflow valve on the inlet. It wasn't a big deal as we weren't boondocking, but we use the pump while travelling for washing hands, etc. I've searched the forii, but can't find this problem.

Just inside your city water inlet behind the screen washer is a check valve which has become dislodged by some thing stuck in it or it just simply didn't re-seat itself properly. Remove the screen washer and use a screwdriver or something similar to push in the check valve a couple of times. Stand off to the side so you don't get drenched.

Your city water inlet has a check valve built into it. It sounds like it might have some foreign material in it or is just stuck in an open position.

Here's a video that explains how to remove and repair:

Regardless of whether your inlet is mounted on the outside of your RV or inside a compartment, they're all pretty much the same.

Problem Solved

A couple of taps with a screwdriver and everything back to normal. I don't know why but I thought the check valve would be inline and hard to get to--like most things on an RV. Thanks for the help.

I recommend you be very cautious if using a screwdriver in there, there is a spring and a small rubber seal that could be damaged. On most of the RV’s I have owned it is quite easy to just use your finger to push on the center pin to reseat the check valve.

My fingers will not fit so I usually use a 1/4" x 1-1/2' or 2" bolt.

Going forward, it's a good idea to run some water through your hose before making a connection to the City Water hookup. Just to make sure there isn't any foreign material in it that might get caught up in this check valve.

This also flushes out any "stale" water

A screw plugs are a good item for your repair chest. A good way to block off a water problem until you can get it repaired and good to,use when the water inlet dust cover goes south. You should have a screen in the water and tank flush inlet to catch the big stuff. Another good item for you repair chest.

For the many years I've been camping I've always emptied out the hose while rolling it up and connected the two ends together to keep critters etc. Out of it. Once I'm there I always run some clean water thru it anyway, like you mentioned, to get any stale residual water out of it. Thanks
