Quick release

I’m thinking about getting quick release fitting for my fresh water setup. Anyone use them? Do they work well? If you don’t use them why not? If I do should I expect any noticeable water restriction?

Figure I’d put connectors on the splitter at the spigot, pressure regulator, the filters, the hose and then at the city water attachment.

We had a few on our lawn stuff at home and took them off, mainly cuz there was no way to release any trapped pressure. We leave our regulator on our drinking hose all of the time, usually tightend on with a set if pliers, so we don't forget it. By design, we need a 45 on our filter, going into the trailer, but we leave them apart for ease of storage.
I would guess there's a bit of a pressure drop on them, but not sure how noticeable it would be.

I bought a bunch of the brass ones at Harbor Freight and could never get them to stop leaking. I even took them back and got replacements. I then bought the brass/plastic knob type at Walmart and while they have worked better, I still have a couple leakers and the water in the park we stayed at this past winter started to erode the male/female connections as well in 3 months.

I'd love to find quality ones that don't leak as they can be a time saver for all the connections you mentioned.

I found them to be convenient but all I've ever had leaked. I resort to good fittings on the end of everything. Plastic ones, nah! Brass ones, yes

If you are concerned about tightening or loosening fittings, use a shop cloth to give a better grip and protect one's hand. And please do not use pliers, channel locks, or such to tighten or loosen hose attachments. If one needs it that tight to stop a leak, one should replace the fittings internal rubber washer.

I have been using solid brass QD's at home and on the coach for years I purchase them from a seller on eBay that goes by the name "PRESSURE WASHER OUTLET" they have never leaked or failed in any way. They look similar to many others but are constructed differently. They also see the replacement washers as they are not standard hose washers. I have 15 or so sets and have never needed to replace the washers in 5 years. I too tried many other types that leaked and were flimsy before I tripped across these.

That's similar to my experience. The Harbor Freight ones worked fine the first year. The metal construction is great--showed no signs of corrosion at the end of the season. But the seal leaked after the first season and could not be replaced. I eventually discarded them all.

Put in a wye shut off if you want to relieve the pressure build up as posted above. That is what I do.

Which Y connector do you use?

Just a common one like this. You can put a quick connect on both sides if you want to use both at different times. Have for mine for washing the roof, truck, etc.

I also have a shut off right before my dual filter assembly. It is installed right before my city water connection. I leave the camper area I shut it off. Yes I could use the wye but it is at the back of the camper and the filter assembly is at the front where my truck is usually parked or even just roaming around the campground I usually leave my site from the front.

Some folks here say it is a pain to shut off the water all the time. Beats coming back and finding a leak that may have sprung up while gone. Just my opinion.

Haven't any desire to try a quick release. Tried them several years ago always leaked................ Just as easy to use a tried and true screw on type.
