safety of water filter after 4 months of no use

I took my KW1 water filter out in order to winterize my camper. I put it in a baggie but did not seal the baggie. Is it safe to put back in my camper and use? I would hate to buy another filter since this one has only been used a couple times. Is it safe to run a small amount of chlorinated water through it to get rid of any contaminants that may have formed while stored in the baggie?

Just add some Clorox to the water tank when you fill it and run it through the filter.

According to Clorox the "mix" for treating "clear" water is approximately 1/2 tsp per 6 gallons.


Forgetting to seal the bag is no worse than what many are doing with their inline "torpedo" filters, shaking them out and storing along with other fresh water gear in their storage compartments.

It's possible that not sealing the bag did you a favor and let the filter element dry. Not much grows in a dry element.
