Sanitizing fresh water tank

When sanitizing the fresh water tank with chlorine, is it ok to sanitize the water heater tank too? I have the Atwood aluminum tank heater and I'm not sure how to bypass the heater tank.

Yep, won't hurt it.

We did ours, just make sure you run plenty of water thru it afterwards.

Flushing is your friend. Disinfecting your entire water system is key. When done, pull the plug on the water heater, and flush the heck out of it. Be sure to flush less obvious areas also such as washer hookups, outside showers, etc.

The water filter cartridge in our Roo claims to remove chlorine and filter the water so I make sure it's removed before running a sanitation solution thru the system. I do the water heater as well, doesn't cost anything.

If you think this is fun imagine sanitizing the 900 gallon water trailers in the Army. Still called "water buffalos" like the old 400 gallon 2-wheel trailers.

And you just had to trust that the water came from a "clean" source. Or get used to the taste of the "purifying chemicals".

Interesting that someone found it necessary to put a fire extinguisher on a water tank.

Don't recall them on our 60's models.
