I have a 2013 m-29bhbs and I took the anode rod/plug out for winter and being the brain surgeon I am I tossed it thinking I know I need a new one because it was falling apart BUT now I have no clue what one I need. Can someone please help??

I think there are only two water heater manufactures. Very easy part to replace. Any rv parts department will have them. I don't like to use the word "standard" but its pretty close I think. Knowing the manufacture of water heater will shorten your search.

I think Anodes are pretty standard. Check what brand water heater you have - Atwood or Suburbon. Shop the Amozon or Walmart website

They aren't very expensive. Buy one of each from Amazon and return the one that doesn't fix.

The Atwoods have aluminum tanks, and therefore don't use an anode rod or come with one, as per this previous thread link.

It's the Suburbans with a steel tank uses the anode rods.

These are fairly standard, regardless of tank size. Here is an amazon link to this anode rod.

The OE anode rod that comes in their heaters is magnesium. You can also get an aluminum kind, if your water is too hard on them....but I would recommend staying with the magnesium so it can protect your tank better.

thank you all very much I guess I should have been more specific it does have propane and electric both. I also know it has an anode rod because it was falling apart in pieces when I pulled it out.

The amazon link in post #6 above should get you fixed up. You can also go to about any RV dealer that has a parts dept, and get the same. The part number is there in the link.

Suburbans need anode rods, Atwoods don't.

Good on you... our Ace store doesn't have any and never did.

BTW, to the OP.
Here are the part #'s for the Suburban Anodes...
232768 is the aluminum rod.
232767 is the magnesium rod.

Many opinions on which is best.
Suburban says you can use either.
The aluminum rod is said to sacrifice slower.
The water heater comes with the magnesium rod from the factory and Suburban says if the magnesium rod doesn't last a year, then use aluminum.

My advice, once you figure out what one you need, buy 2. They are inexpensive and the next time you need one it will already be there. I have a spare stored with my water filter stuff so I'll know where it is. When I toss one and put in the spare I'll put on my memo list to buy another one so I have a spare again. Cincia

You said the anode came apart when you pulled it out, Means you need to flush your hot water heater before you put the new anode in. I bought a flush wand to do mine. See youtube on how to do it.
