Stuck Rocker Switch
I have a 2013 Palomino Solaire 201SS with a Suburban SW6DE water heater. When doing routine maintenance yesterday I went to turn off the electric water heater switch(at the water heater cover) and found that the switch would not switch to the "Off" position. I pushed the switch fairly hard with my finger, but did not want to force the matter. I know that the electric portion of the water heater has never been operated with an empty water heater. I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this, and if the switch can be pulled out and replaced? I live in central California and the weather is mild, so I ruled out that the switch froze. I'm fairly handy, but my experience with electricity is very limited.
Happy New Year to the forum.

The part your looking for is a Suburban # 233358, electric element switch. The switch has a tab on the top and bottom. Turn off your water heater breaker then use a small flat tip screw driver to depress the tabs and it will pop out.

Yes the switch can be pulled out and replaced. https://parts.unitedrv.com/products/...xoCJeoQAvD_BwE
Here's a Youtube video on replacement...

Those switches are famous for melting and locking in position.
The current running through them causes this over and over for many people.
Any half decent RV shop stocks these switches. Do yourself a favour and buy 2.
Make ABSOLUTELY SURE the power is turned OFF before removing the switch.
The wire connections WILL touch the metal of the water heater as you remove and replace the switch. It’s a tight fit, but you can release the tabs on the top and bottom with a fairly small screwdriver. Take the broken one with you to compare the correct size and electrical rating.

If the trailer is not plugged in shore power and the battery is disconnected, do I still need to pull the water heater fuse?

No. The fuse has nothing to do with the electric element switch. The switch is part of the 110V system. That fuse is on the 12V side that supplies power to your DSI (Igniter for propane).

Technically no. But in good practice, always pull the fuse (or flip the circut breaker) when doing electrical work. If you're replacing the switch and someone else walks around the camper and plugs it in... "Zap"

You need to find the 110vAC breaker for the water heater in your power center and turn that breaker to OFF.
