Suburban 6gal tank grey wolf 26dbh

Have the Suburban 6gal tank and hooked up water for first time. Since im at home and running off 110v and just want to use the electric im only turning on the switch inside the tank cover however its not heating up. The inside htr switch must be for the propane because it cycles twice and does not ignite since the propane is off. My old rockwood did not need propane to ignite or run. What am i missing?

On electric, it takes a while for it to heat up. I like to start on propane the switch to elec. just like I do with the reefer.

If the outside switch has ever been on when connected to shore power and the tank was empty, you may have burned out the heating element. If working properly, and quiet, you should be able to hear the water heating when you turn on the electric element.

You can still use the water heater on propane (if the element is burned out) and not loose any camping days at the end of the season before putting away for winter change out the element or change it out now its not that difficult to do.

The anode rod is not the heating element. IF you turned on the electric element without water in the tank, you probably fried the heating element which can be bought at any RV parts place. It's behind a rubber cover low on the water heater's face.

Ok, just to know for sure how long does it typically take for the electric element to heat up the water normally?

Assuming i fried the element would it have tripped the breaker? I just checked the panel and it was off. Not sure they left it off at pdi?? I used to hear a slight buzzing sound with my rockwood, does the Suburban have one?

The black oval cover at the bottom of the below pic to the left of the anode/drain is the heating element.

See page 19 in the attached service manual for identification of the electric element and diagram of the anode rod. Starting on page 30 you will see the location of the electric element on the 6 gallon models.

It should be hot within about 45 min or so worth testing before you take things apart.

Yes you should hear a high pitched sound which is the water in contact with the element boiling. If the breaker was off and is on now try again. You can also get a heating element at some big box hardware stores.

Not necessarily (I think!). Some people flip the water heater breaker off to
1. Save turning off the electric switch on the outside face of the heater.
2. Keep the next person from turning the heater on with no water in it.

I was gonna ask if you had pulled the water heater's electrical plug and tested for power but I got behind in my work!
