Tank Chemicals

What chemicals are good For grey and black tanks? That includes digestion as well as odors. Thank you.

You're going to get lots of suggestions. My only advice would be to get one that is Formaldehyde Free. We tend to buy the kind that you can use in both tanks.

I changed to the geo method this year. Works for us. For the black tank, Dawn and Borax. For the grey tank, I use a concentrated Orange citrus degreaser, I bought it at Tractor Supply. I add after dumping my tanks with 2-3 gallons of water in each tank.

I'm partial to the Odorlos brand. Easy to store and measure, keeps odors down, and tank is clean enough for me.

Odorlos. Been using it in boat holding tanks for 20 years. These only get dumped out a few times a season unless we're way off shore in the ocean. And my campers. Add a good enzyme to get some good bacteria in there.

If you poison the tank it will stink twice. Once from the poison, the second from the surviving bad bacteria. Anything blue is probably poison. It's the overwhelming smell in small boat and RV stores as it only takes a tiny spill.

Also Airplane toilets and Porta-Potties.

Nothing quite like a 4 hour plane trip that was booked for you at the last minute and your seat is right next to the "Lavatory".

Ditto for a hot summer day at the fair where the food area picnic tables are downwind of the 20 or more Porta-Johns.

So much for enjoying your "Fair Food".

This is an often discussed topic with opinions comparable to "what's the best underwear to buy?"

For many years we used Thetford Campa-Chem and it worked positively fine.

About 4 years ago, to be more environmentally friendly, we switched to the GEO method (Dawn & Liquid Calgon) and also have had no issues.

We also have a Blue-Streak dispensing system and the toilet smells like baby powder!

Do a search of this forum and the internet and you will have days worth of suggestions.

Thetford Aqua-Kem contains formaldehyde, Thetford Campa-Chem breaks down into formaldehyde byproducts.
Thetford Campa-Chem Natural is formaldehyde free.

See Aqua-Kem MSDS sheet link below, cannot seem to be ab;e to find the MSDS sheet for Campa-Chem. Which brings to question what are they trying to hide?
