I agree. A lot of seasonals......and I suspect that’s the type of RV we’re trouble shooting here......leave the waste gates open all the time, instead of filling the holding tanks before emptying. The gray and black tanks are HOLDING tanks, NOT SEPTIC tanks.

Does the unit have 2 bathrooms and possibly a 2nd black tank?

Toilet will not drain - end post
Thank you all for your responses ... truly appreciate it ... have tried everything regarding snaking, poking, prodding ... and yes, pulling the black tank lever ... but as that is not the problem does not really matter ...
Tech is coming in this week to take a look ...

Let us know what you find. It is unusual if the tank is emply and cleaned that the water in the toilet would not drain.
Good Luck !!!!!

The toilet will not drain because it’s entrance into black tank is blocked. Had this same issue when on first few days of travel we did not use enough water. The paper and solids drop onto bottom of dry tank and form a mound. Mine was easy to clear because it is a straight drop from toilet to tank. I was able to use a stick and spray wand to get said mound broke down. You may need to poke around in tank from drain end. Wear protective suit and face shield! Yuck [emoji90] [emoji90]

maybe try a wet dry vac with a long hose and suck the water out that way. Then maybe you can see what the clog is and maybe you can get it out that way

Use a camera and you may be able to see what's going on in your drain system.
Have you tried snaking down the roof vent?

Just because you drained the black tank and flushed it afterward, unless you looked inside the tank from the toilet with a flashlight to verify it was empty, it may not be empty.
As was stated previously, a mound can build up inside the tank below the toilet pipe and block the flow from the toilet to the tank.
This is caused by not flushing with enough water, leaving the tank valve open to the sewer which allows water to run out but leaves solids or both.
The tank flush, unless run with the black tank valve open for an hour might move the mound but possibly as one big clog. There are wands that you can connect a hose to that you stick down the toilet that will help break up the mound.
Good luck!

I'd go buy a cheap, old-fashioned plunger. Step on the pedal to open the trap and plunge away.
This same thing happened to us once in our Columbus (previous fifth wheel) and the plunger did the trick. Turned out it was evidently a toilet paper blockage.

I mean, unless it's a non-standard install the toilet literally dumps straight into the black tank. If the toilet doesn't drain then there's a blockage, either in the section of pipe that connects the toilet to the black tank (again, a straight shot) or there's a pyramid of waste. It's really not a complicated issue to troubleshoot, it sounds like the OP/owner are making assumptions and aren't taking the time to just grab something, even a stick, and stick it down the hole in the toilet while the valve is open to see what they feel and what happens.
Am I missing something?

Sounds like the tank is still full and didn't drain properly the last time.

Also, just because the tank was drained and "flushed" doesn't mean it got everything. The pyramid of solid waste isn't something you just wash/flush away no matter how many times you flush the tank.
If you manage to dislodge the pyramid from the bottom of the tank without getting it to break down then it's likely plugging the tank drain. You think the tank is empty because nothing comes out of the drain but the tank is full.
Ask the owner if they leave the drain valve open most of the time or not. If they do then the solids will build up while the liquids go down the drain and over time you get the pyramid. The black tank should be allowed to fill and proper use of chemicals will help break the solids down so that this build-up doesn't happen.

OP claims they ran a snake down 6'. I can't imagine the pipe between the toilet and the black tank is more than that.

It's clear that some members aren't reading all the thread posts, based on recent responses.

They do not leave it open ... why ask for problems ... they are experienced RVers and have never had an issue before ... all was working fine ... emptied and cleaned tank ... incl using power washer ... toilet was working fine ... then all of a sudden it did not ...
