Me too!
Tip- I bought a little 1/2 pint can of plumbers putty. Get some!
It's cheap.
Make a snake and put it around the cutout for your new faucet.
once you tighten it down you can easily remove the squished out putty.
I don't know what your counter tops are made of but many are
particle board and that stuff will disintegrate if it gets wet so you don't
want any water leaking under the faucet flange.
Plumbers putty will stop it.
There are youtube videos how to do this if you need to see it done.
