waste water tank valve rod
we are newbies- we bent the rod by pushing too hard- has anyone experienced this problem? And how did you solve it?
thanks in advanced for all your replies. We will post our outcome when we get there.

Call Prime Time and they will send you new ones. Put a little lock tight on the threads to keep them from coming off while you travel.

They didn't loose the handle, they bent the rod which might be able to be straightened unless it was bent real badly.

It would probably best to replace the whole valve, as the rods are hard to straighten out. They do not seem to work all that good after you try and starighten them.

Perhaps I made the wrong assumption. How do you know that they don't?
OP, call the manufacturer. They will probably send you a free one.

I didn't say they lost the handle. I lost a handle and the rod that it was attached to while traveling. Seems that the pin that is part of the slide gate rotates in the body of the valve. This prevents the rod from being able to be tightened if the valve is enclosed under the belly. Loss of rod and handle is not uncommon on the Prime Time that I have. Factory sent me 2 new rods, a new handle and small tube of Lock Tite within a few days of calling them and at no charge.

My handles broke off after a couple of uses. The threaded ends of the valves are outside of the frame. At first I got threaded rod, a coupler, and some knobs to make a stronger handle/rod assembly. That could work, but instead I just screwed the knob onto the valve end threads. That worked fine, just a little further reach to the knob. If the handle goes thru the frame then make the handle with the threaded rod and coupler.
ps My TT is a Primetime/LaCrosse

What are you suggesting they put lock tight on if not the handle?

The valve gate has a short stub with male threads and can not be held to tighten the rod because it is recessed. That stub spins in the gate. Take the end on the rod, put a little locktite on it and screw it on that stub. Put a little locktite on the other end of the rod and screw the knob on. See Rockwood's picture to see how the gate is hidden.

You could put a nut on the stub, pull it out, and then snap on a pair of vice grips on the shaft to keep it from turning. You could also use the nut as a locking nut behind the knob.
