Water coming out fresh water fill cap

I have water coming out of our fresh water fill cap when hooked up to city water system. This is on 2013 8282WS Rockwood 5th wheel. I have a water pressure regulator on the city fill hose. Anyone know how to fix, is the water pump leaking back? Is there a check valve in the system to keep the city water system from back filling the fresh water tank? See photo below

yes your water pump is allowing water to flow into the fresh water tank. There is some type of debris in the pump holding it slightly open. Take it apart and clean it up and you should be fine.

Try disconnecting from the city water and turning on the pump. Open a faucet inside and let it run for a few minutes. That may flush out any debris in the pump and allow the check valve to seat. If that doesn't work, as Brother Les said, you'll have to take it apart, possibly have to replace it.

Seems like I saw in another post that there is a check valve in the system to prevent water from going into the holding tank while on city water. It sounds like it has failed.

The pump discharge check valve is blowing through is the culprit. I believe Shurflo has a two year warranty, need to contact the dealer or Shurflo so you don't ruin the deal by opening it. Just for info the pump is defective or city pressure at one point or another over pressurized and distorted the valve disc. The fill valve doesn't have an additional check in it, only the city pressure fitting.

I have always used a water pressure regulator on the city water hose. I tried shutting off the city water and than running the water pump and so far our fresh water tank is not filling. Maybe there was just something in the line.

I posted this pic in another thread. As you can see there are 3 rotor pumps in the pump head and the check valve. The valves are small and it does not take much to hold one open.

Back flushing by running the pump with an open faucet normally will clear it unless the valve has torn. Then replacement of the pump head (or total pump) is your only option.

I would not recommend opening the pump head; but if running the water pump does not fix it (AND its out of warranty), you are looking at a rebuild/replacement anyway so it can't hurt.

The last picture will not load for me. Can you upload it again? Thanks
Does anyone have a picture or know of a check valve that is in the city water connection that would be restricting flow any?

There is no check valve in the city water connection that I know of.... Also I would just replace it, Surflo makes a good pump, You can go up a size also. How they size the pumps is by the number of fixtures it supplies. Get the next size bigger more PSI.

All three of my previous and current trailers had/have a check valve
in the city water fitting. It's right there where I screw on the fresh water
hose to the trailer side.
Some folks winterize and while there is pink stuff in the system under
pressure they push open the check valve at the city water inlet to let
the water come out until they see pink.

Problem is it's real easy to unseat the check valve with your finger and
then parts tend to fly out and get lost so I don't recommend clearing
that line that way. I use air to blow the water further into the system
before I start pumping pink thru the pipes.

This is getting (Off Track) to the O/Post! The city water inlet has (NO) bearing on his problem of (City water filling his F/W Tank)! The OP has (NOT) replied back,so lets NOT ramble on to a Diff.Problem! Youroo!!

They all have check valves integral to the fitting. Remove the silt screen from yours and you will see the valve stem.

I was using the search function for several days now trying to find answers to my problems and learn more about campers in general. I didn't want to start a new thread when this could be part of or some great info for me solving my own problem. I would like to see the last picture but it wouldn't load. Sorry for getting this off topic. But this might help original poster in solving some of his problems if he ever checks back. This was a pretty old topic. I'm still learning a whole lot reading these forums. Thanks

Some of the newer model 5th wheels that I have seen come with a valve on the outside control panel to fill the fresh water tank via the city water connection. If that is the case here, could the valve be cracked open or bad ??

Yes the separate fill valve can leak by. The pump leaking backwards is quite common, esp if someone uses the pump while on live shore water pressure.
