Water Draining

I need a bit of help here!
We're still new to all this.... We have a 2014 Columbus by Palomino model 375TL 5th wheel.
When hooked up to street water, after about a hour or so, we start having water draining out of a black hose that's near the fresh water drain stopcock. First, is this the "low point drain", and Second, why would it be draining in the first place? Is there something that is open that shouldn't be? I've got a message into Columbus/Forest River, but no reply yet....
Once I turn off the street water it's stop draining in a few minutes. Something here isn't quite right.... Any assistance would be appreciated.

This is a very common problem. What you are seeing is most likely your fresh water tank overflowing. This happens when the check valve in the water pump does not seal well. Most of the time the following procedure will correct it. PS Do not run water pump when on city water.


Turn off city water at spigot.
Open any RV faucet and run Rv water until it stops ( few seconds)
close faucet
Turn on water pump and run water for 30 seconds
Close faucet and wait for water pump to stop
Turn off water pump
turn city water back on.



Once you correct the problem, you should drain your FW tank.


You should also have a pressure regulator inline as some campground water systems have very high pressure.

As FlyBob mentioned... common issue.
There are threads here weekly about this topic.

Often times dirt or debris can hold a pump's internal check valve open and the procedure posted often cures it by flushing out the culprit.

Sometimes too high city water pressure can overcome a perfectly good working check valve. Always use a good water pressure regulator when on city water. And as mentioned, using the pump along with city water can sometimes open the check valve and then the city pressure overcomes the check valve and holds it open, back-flowing water into the tank until it comes out the tank's overflow.

And sometimes the check valve just won't seal.
You then either need to rebuild the pump head or install an inline check valve in the plumbing near the pump.
