Unhappy Water filter leaks when winterizing

We had filter canister off to change filter with no problem. Today we removed the filter and put the canister on tightly. Turned on the pump to put in the pink stuff and it leaked all over. Took off the canister and saw the O ring appeared too big it doesn't fully seat in the groove. Thinking maybe it stretched? Went and bought another one. Rubbed lube stuff on it and it fit in groove, tightened it in place. Still leaks. Any suggestions?
Once we get this to stop leaking it's not coming off again. Skipping the filter part and just using an outside one!
