Water Heater Anode

Hello All,
Well...I'm long overdue for replacing the anode on my water heater, which I'm assuming is a 10 gal Suburban brand.

* Magnesium vs Aluminum? I'm thinking magnesium.
* Part Number or where/what to purchase

2014 Forest River 360 PDEK (42' 5th wheel)

Thanks for the help

Any big box store, any RV dealers parts dept. Their all standard 3/4 NPT thread. All you need to worry about is getting one less than 10 inches long.

If you don't have Teflon tape get some for the install.

X2 on the Teflon tape. Only used 1 or 2 wraps last year and would have drips once in a while. Put 4 wraps around this year with Teflon tape and nice and leak free.

Has your tank started rusting yet? If so, you probably shouldn’t go with a magnesium rod as this can now accelerate the rusting of the tank. Use aluminum.

Actually a magnesium rod offers the most protection, as it sacrifices quicker. Suburbans come factory equipped with the magnesium rods. You want to use aluminum if using water sources that just go thru a magnesium "too" fast.

We keep a great set of five videos that Suburban provided our forums, explaining the maintenance and use of their water heaters at this link:

The very first one, copied below explains the anode rods and magnesium vs aluminum:

Hope this helps

Thanks everybody for the help. I found a magnesium "2-pack" for $14.79 on Amazon, with free shipping.
The camper is a 2014, with the original anode still in it, so I'm a little concerned if the original will come out easily, and not twist the mount in the Water Heater frame.
I'll update when I change out, and the condition of the original.
Thanks
