A camco anode. prob. about 9 i nches long. Just match up the one you take out. To reinstall new one, wrap a couple of turns of teflon tape around threads . smear a dab of ant-iseize for bolts on tape. Looks rusty, try to clean up threads in tank hole. Dont over tighten rod.

Everytime I see a post about anode rods I think to myself, "Have any of those people EVER replaced an anode rod in their home water heater"?

I know you say your not serious.


For those not in the know, the main reasons water heaters fail is from not having the anode replaced and not getting annually flushed out.


In the scrap metal recycling business I saw more water heaters being scrapped than other appliances, if you count by the numbers the were 2nd to motor vehicles.

Probably why my "contractor quality" water heater in my new (2004) condo failed at 6 years. 1 year after the warranty was up!

I thought most home water heaters were glass lined to eliminate that problem but I guess I was wrong?

Most are porcelain lined but there is enough uncoated steel, fittings that are welded in and the bottom plate which is in direct contact with the flame, they still need an anode.
In Suburban rv water heaters the burner tube/flue is not lined with porcelain.
