Water Heater Igniter not Working.

I just purchased a used 2017 Forest River Salem Cruise Lite. It has the Suburban SW6D water heater. I am out camping for the first time and there is no hot water. When I turn on the WH switch in the camper I get the DSI fault. The problem appears to be the igniter isnít activating. Iíve opened the door on the rear of the trailer and the igniter is not sparking or making any type of noise. I can hear the gas turn on and off though. I can actually light the flame with a lighter but the gas still turns off after a couple seconds. I assume it knows there is a fault with the igniter? I have verified there is plenty of propane.
When I pull the PRV on the water heater cold water comes out, so the unit is full.
I am also hooked up to power and I canít find any switch anywhere to turn on the electric heating. I donít have a switch at the WH door like shown in some of the photos I saw on other threads, not is there a switch inside that I can find.
Any ideas here? The previous owner said it worked perfect the last time he used it.
Also, how do I run the WH in electric mode?

Sound like you tripped the Hi and Low limit switches.
These can be reset if you read the manual attached.
I also have a picture of the resetting button.
All ar elocated on the outside of the unit and may be covered by two rubber boots which you push on to reset.

Hope this helps you.

If you don't have an E in the model number, then you don't have an electric heating element.

Ex SW6DE

If you do have a SW6D, then it's propane only.

You may have a bad module board. Let me get you done previous threads.

The SW6D is LP only, no electric side.

Your symptoms of how it acts are very common to those who have found a bad control board.

The control board is typically mounted on the back side of the water heater.

You might want to consider a Dinosaur Electronics brand board as a replacement.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the quick replies!
I have bunks over the WH. I assume I’ll need to remove the bottom one to access the WH.
Is there anything I can test on the control board to confirm that is it?
I already purchased a new igniter but that didn’t change anything.

You could have a faulty module board, which does happen (and your year model RV is in that time frame). This thread, starting at post #6 and reading forward up to post #26, may help. Post #26 will be about the module board.

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ml#post1827312

Here is a schematic for the propane side of a suburban water heater. Note the #4 module board

Before you change the board clean the electrode and check the gap, it should be 1/8". If that checks out, look at the solder side of the module board for a dark spot at Q3.

Water Heater Igniter not Working.

Looking at the back of the board it looks like I have some damage:

Looks like I need a new board, correct? I assume this is the area of the board that is prone to burning up?
Also, anyone know the part # I need from Dinosaur Electronics?

Yes, it does appear from the pic that you have a burned spot on the board, and it's at the same spot as other members have posted (and were linked to in the thread I previously posted). When you turn your pic to the same orientation as the other board, you can easily tell it's in the same spot.

I sent a PM to oldxr to see if he can provide you with the Dinosaur part number as he has had the same problem from another thread.

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ml#post1627754

Maybe another member who has used this board can provide it also.

Villagerjim also had this same problem here, and replaced with a Dinosaur Electronics board:

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ml#post2361640

You can see, his also burned in the same spot

The Dinosaur UIB-S is pretty much a universal board (furnace/water heater) and is also available on eBay for $69 w/Free shipping. I carry one as insurance that I won't need it.

Do you know if this specific model will work in place of of the control boards for every water heater and furnace in a Windjammer, or would I need to provide the model numbers of my water heater and furnace to find out? I think I will buy one for the same reason you have one.

The Dinosaur board is a UIB-S board. You can link to it here:
https://www.dinosaurelectronics.com/UIB_S.htm
It is made in the USA and has a three year warranty. Buy the plastic cover for the unit to protect the module. It is an easy replacement.

Dinosaur Electronics makes a number of control boards for water heaters, refrigerators and furnaces. The boards all carry a great warranty and appear to be rock solid in construction. Also, made in USA!! I really like that!!
