Water heater problems

Hi, we have a 2015 Forest River Wildcat 295 rxs that we are not able to turn the electric water heater. The gas works but there are black smoke marks outside the exhaust vent Is there another switch outside to turn on the electric water heater? Is the black smoke normal for a new unit?

See if this FAQ helps. It explains the operation, as well as the usual electric switch placement (if equipped), for the Suburban brand water heaters.

If so equipped go to the exhaust vent and open. Look behind the burner tube and to the left by the wall If you have a switch it should be there. Hard to see. Later RJD

good post by wmtire. as far as the smoke goes, you got a bad air/fuel mixture. this is usually caused by the a small spider that builds that solid white looking web in the burner tube. thats where I would look first. could be other causes...flue obstruction, orifice, lp pressure. get some lp leak fluid to test connections when your done. Attempt only if you feel its within your capabilities.
