Water Leak Around Water Heater

Yesterday while getting ready to go to the Texas coast for a week I found a wet area in the bedroom. It was along the wall on the left side seeping from under a 3" X 3" wooden cover. I pulled the cover and found the water had come from the pass through storage area. My water heater extends into the pass through storage and I had just flushed the heater and installed the anode rod. Seems Forest River did not seal the bottom of the door flange to the water heater. So anytime the water heater is drained by pulling the anode rod or water is let out using the relief valve water will run into the pass through then into the bedroom. I caught this in time and no damage was done. I will seal this up when I get back home Saterday. Everyone might want to check your water heaters especially Rockwood 2604 owners.

I had that same thing happen to me with my Surveyor. I added more caulk to the outside joint, and haven't had a problem since. I do try to divert the water out over the edge with a "chute" of aluminum foil. Also, I leave the lines and pressure relief valve closed, so the water "glugs" out instead of a high flow rate with a vented tank. But, do relieve the pressure in the tank 1st.

I found this when I went to pick up my Sierra. The dealership was really embaressed and fixed it immediatly. I would definetatly recommend anyone with a FR Trailer to check this. Also, sorry about my spelling. I cant spell worth crap and cant get the spell checker to work even after I downloaded it.

This problem is probably across the board with all makes and models.......the water heater is basically installed the same way in all campers.
