Water leaks from City connection

Hey all -

Noticed a strange issue last time I took my 2011 Mini-lite 1809s out last weekend boondocking and noticed water coming out of the city water connection. Actually the leak was not from the actual fill but from behind it where is seals up against the trailer.

Any clue how this can happen or whats going on?

may be the GH connection. Stack two gaskets or get an o-ring type gasket... they are taller/thicker. Cheap try. Mine did it too.

Check the space on the interior where the water connection comes into the trailer to make sure it is not leaking inside.

Most City Water connections have a built in backflow preventer valve. Usually, during the first winter, a little water is trapped in the valve, freezes, and screws up the valve, and then water leaks.

Replace the hose gasket (the rubber gasket) and use a pair of pliers to snug up the cap thats on the connection.

Think there's a check valve there also, but as others have posted, bet it'll be a loose pex clamp or hose clamp

Thanks for all for the help. I am still wondering how water can leak out of the highest point especially when i am using fresh water. It must be when the pump is on in order to pressurize it?..... i find it really odd. It also seemed to be leaking there while trailering.

I'm new to travel trailers so this is a good learning experience.
Once again i'll take it apart this weekend and let you know what i find.

Bob, the OP is complaining of a leak at the city water connection when using the pump. Not the other way around.

Yep - when using the fresh water tank and not connected to city water.

he says he is using the pump with city water ,my trailer directions says not to use the pump when using city water .If you do it will pressurize the system and cause leaks. maybe that is what is causing the leaks . I don't know if that is what is happening. I think I would try city water without the pump. If it still leaks then try new fittings and gaskets and clamps.

I am not using the pump with city water. Its rarely even hooked up to city water....

Ok sorry I misunderstood now that means water is probably getting in that line from the water supply and is back feeding .Must be the back flo valve.

Here's a plumbing diagram that covers probably 95% of RVs. You'll see that the output of the water pump has a path directly to the back of the city water connection.

Well I took it all apart this weekend and it seems as if the check valve in the city water connection is bad. Ordered a new one..

I don't know why none of us told you this (focused on the cause rather than the solution, I guess), but:

The usual fix for a leaking check valve is to put some water in the fresh water tank, turn off the city water, and run the pump for a minute or two. That usually flushes out the valve and allows it to reseat properly. If you've still got it all apart, I'd go ahead and replace the valve, but if not, you might want to try flushing it first and keep the new valve as a spare for when it really does fail.
