You don't HAVE to...but I always do as a precaution.
A leak somewhere inside the walls due to excessive water pressure could be costly !

Apparently it's better be safe than sorry, Wally World sells a regulator that screws inline with the hose. I think it's set at 40 psi. Super cheap too. I hear some campgrounds can be higher at times trying to make sure everybody has pressure at their site.

We use the Wal-Mart pressure regulator. Never regretted using. It's very cheap insurance.

I've seen the disaster caused by too much pressure and the owners weren't around to turn the water off. We were at the pool in a CG and when we were walking back to our camper, we saw water spewing out of the doomed camper between the floor and wall. Something let loose inside and flooded it. The poor owners were horrified when they returned from sight seeing that day.
I use the WM version and keep a spare, just in case.

I use a Watts adjustable regulator. I found that the less expensive ones cut the water flow.

I just purchased this adjustable regulator:
Valterra A01-1117VP Brass Lead-Free Adjustable Water Regulator
from Amazon for $53.41.

During our last trip, the water pressure fluctuated from CG to CG. And so did the shower pressure.
So 1 time I removed the cheap regulator I had in-line to get higher pressure.
Without the regulator, the water flow in the toilet was so fast that it swished out and around outside of the toilet - it was that fast.
Too much pressure.
So I quickly reinstalled the cheap regulator.
When I got home, I put a gauge on it and the cheap regulator was measuring 40 psi at the discharge. That is too low.
The new regulator is adjustable and I have it set for 55 psi.
Haven't used it yet. But it will be a lot nicer!

I use the Valterra regulator mentioned above. Better water flow than the cheap Walmart pressure regulators I tried initially. I have never tried the more expensive Watts models as my Valterra seems to flow just fine.

We do use a pressure regulator...but we also try to remember to turn off the city water whenever we leave the camper for an extended period of time for just that reason (a leak while you're not around can be a disaster). We also kill power to the pump when we leave if we are using the fresh water tank for our supply.
I read a story about someone who flushed their toilet, then left to go grocery shopping. The toilet continued to run until it emptied the fresh water tank completely...overflowing the black tank all over into the unit!! YUK!!

I ues a watts that I put an input and output pressure gauge on. I also turn the water off at the pedistal if we are not there.

This may or may not be related to pressure. Yes indeed a good idea to use a pressure regulator, but a burst line or a loose connection that just lets go can happen even with a regulator, which is why we got in the habit, as one other poster mentioned, of shutting the water supply off when we leave the trailer.

We received one with our first trailer and got some good advise during the PDI to hook it to the faucet then the hose wouldn't possibly bear the high pressure.
We have since bought a High Volume Regulator and like how it works much better. Cheap Insurance
We also have a surge protector. Cheap Insurance
