Water pump loud?

Hey all,

2007 Coachman Mirada here and every time I use the water pump it sounds really loud. I mean maybe I'm just sensitive to noise, and it seems to work just fine, but it just seems like it's too loud.

The rig is pretty old... is there an wisdom out there in RV-land about replacing water pumps after a certain number of years just as a precaution?

Thanks!

Mike

Make sure the mounting screws are secure.
Make sure none of the lines are vibrating on anything.

There typically is a vibration isolator attached to the pump mounting but not always and hard line connections will vibrate with a hammering noise if they are not isolated from the pump with flex lines. There are kits to do this but can be done with items from home supply stores. Not unusual and not necessarily an indication of a pump going bad.

If it operates fine there's no reason to change it. Typically your water pump will be in the vanity cabinet, linen closet, kitchen sink, water bay, storage bay, or under the bed to name a few places. Turn it on and follow the noise. Some noise can be reduced or eliminated by using the split insulating foam for household plumbing or hollow pool noodles cut and split to install on the pipes against the floor and wall.

You might be able to fix the noise issue without finding it... but I doubt it.

Pool noodles are so useful for things non-pool related

A very loud fresh water pump when first turning it on may be due to a pressure leak somewhere. When the water pump is turned on and the pressure is built up and all faucets are closed the line pressure should stay up in the water lines. If this water line pressure 'bleeds' off, you have some type of leak in the pump/lines/faucets. Not a big problem if you turn your water pump off when not in use. If you use/are on, city water and leave the city water on all of the time, if there is a line leak some where, this could become a problem.
