Water pump running too long and hot water coming from cold faucet
First time using camper in 2 years. We noticed after using water in faucet, the pump would stay on way longer than it used to. What would cause this and is it something to be concerned about? The camper is a 2011 and pump is most likely original pump. Even though we don`t use the camper much, I'm not sure if maybe we are needing a new one. Also, the second day camping, turned on the kitchen faucet to wash dishes and warm water was coming out both cold and hot faucets. Could this be related to the problem with the pump?

Do your shower heads have a knob to shut water off, both inside and outside? Make sure shower faucets are turned off. No idea on the pump.

It might be that the water bypass valve at the back of the hot water heater is open from when the camper was winterized.

this often happens when there is air trapped in the pipes... the air in a pipe somewhere gets compressed by the pump and causes the pump to run longer... liquid is easier to compress than air... and allows the pump to reach pressure faster and shut off... bleed all of the faucets including any outdoor shower or kitchen faucets...

surely you know that liquid is in-compressible and transmits pressure instantaneously... hydraulics it is called... where as air is more elastic...
maybe I mis-wrote or you took that one line out of context...

Could be the pressure switch in the pump is not activating as it should . so even if psi is reached it keeps pumping longer then it should just to get the switch to activate . sometimes a loose wire to pressure switch will do the same thing . there is a screw on front of pump to adjust pressure switch if used should only turn a smudging .

NOPE nothing out of context, you Clearly stated that water was easier to compress than air. That may not be what you meant but it is what you said.

Could be the water was heated by the sun. How much fresh water hose was in the hot sun and for how long. Did this condition last very long, maybe just a gallon or so of warm water before it cooled down at the cold water side? I doubt it is related to your pump problems.
Let us know what you find, it could help someone else.

Agreed, this seems most likely. If the pump repeatedly cycles without using any water, there is probably a small leak somewhere.

And that leak could be the check valve in the pump itself allowing the pressure to bleed off back into the freshwater tank.
