Water Tank Emptying while city water is connected
We went out for our very first 3-day outing in our new (to us) Class C. I filled the fresh-water tank at home. At the end of the trip, I unhooked the city water and then I noticed that the fresh-water tank shows empty. I tested and sure enough, we had no water. There is no evidence of a leak anywhere. Is it possible that even with the city water hooked up the RV is using the fresh-water tank instead? Any help is appreciated.

Yes, the pump runs even when city water is connected. I didn't think it should since there is already pressure in the lines.

Hmmm! Mine doesn't run when connected to city water, There should be a switch for the pump ? Really shouldn't need the pump for city water.

I agree, shouldn't need it on. But even if it's on by mistake, which it probably was, shouldn't it use the city water?

One would think! But I know the pump is for use with the fresh water tank, As for how it didn't use the city water, I'm not sure, I'm sure someone here will know the specifics.

It will use both.
They really are not completely separate systems.
You should turn your pump off when connected to city water.
The only time I've ever used them together is when the city water pressure is very low (like at a rally where dozens of R/Vs are connected to a single spigot) or if the campground water pressure was miserably low.
Maybe this generic schematic will help...

Can the pump be adjusted to be less sensitive? That way you could leave it on without draining your tank, unless you're not getting sufficient pressure.

I think if pump is on and pump pressure is higher than city water you will draw from tank

If the city water pressure is lower than the pump's threshold pressure you will draw from the tank.
Turn off the pump when using city water.
Leaving the pump on will usually cause a problem with the check valve. And this has been discussed ad infinitum.

The diagram has useful information. Whoever drew it should be given credit for their effort. Hopefully they're not reading these comments. Many adults struggle to read. Some can't read at all, despite a lifetime of trying.

Berkshire XL 40C - water problem
Oddly, my water system started to act weirdly this summer...
First of all the master input valve will not easily rotate (or not at all) through the positions - Normal, City Fill, winterize,,,,
Additionally when on City Fill, the water tank will fill up (and then overflow) instead of just passing the City water into the plumbing system. When doing so we get the normal pressure at all the outlets but then there is a small stream in the morning from the overfill ;(
Another weird system is that the pump will run continuously even when all the faucets are closed. It is like the system does not "build" pressure to it off the pump...
So, we for the last few trips we have had to turn off the incoming water and run the pump when we wanted water.
The problems/behaviors must be interrelated ... I am not sure if I am going to replace the multi-position input valve with the same (if I can find it) or just create a new manifold with individual valves...
Anyone have a similar experience or solution?
