Winter storage Anode rod in or out

When storing trailer for the winter, after winterizing, should one store with the anode rod in or out, or does it matter?

I drain and clean my tank, then just put it back in. When I do fill it with water I check for leaks before I throw the switch. If you leave it out get a plug to install in replacement.

X2, as little critters/bugs may climb up in there and would now be in your water system........ and it also keeps the threads from rusting in the off-season, which can make installing the rod a lot harder come spring.

I actually keep my anode rod in, after draining.

Of course down here in the gumbo mud South, it's just now really getting camping weather. I do more camping from October to April, than any other time of the year.

I leave mine in as I'm afraid of the threads rusting and not being able to get it back in come spring.

If you leave it out, get a BRASS plug and install it to prevent rust or a rubber/plastic plug if you wipe the threads with a silicone paste like Danco.

Hand tightened after HWH is flushed out. Note on my spring checklist to reapply new teflon tape and tighten.
