1.8 amp. battery charger std. on Wildwood?

I was just informed by dealer that the Wildwoods come standard with a 1.8 amp. battery charger. Is this true and if so can I easily convert to a Smart Charger? A trickle charger would never be able to charge a depleted battery to full charge.

I can't speak for others but our Wildwood T23 has a 3 amp charger built in. However when camping and can run the generator I have an 8 amp standard charger I use to give the batteries a boost. When at home sitting I use a Battery Tender to keep the voltage up.

the charger should be incorporated into the trailer's converter.

My 2012 Wildwood 24TBSS came with a WFCO 8955 converter. It is a three-stage charger and will put out more than 1.8A when the battery is thirsty.

I would get some better info than what your dealer gave you. I have a very hard time believing that a new RV converter only puts out 1.8 amps of charging current.

What model converter does your RV have?

dlhoppe, I was told that the 1.8 amp is now standard equipment on Wildwoods. Since I have not taken possession from the factory yet I don't know what model converter it has. My dealer is at the factory and has said he would get the info for me tomorrow. The factory has offered me a converter/charger from one of their 5th wheel models with the smart charge feature for a fee.
I haven't given the thumbs up on that until I get the info on what really is standard on these trailers.

The WFCO Power Centers have a 3-stage charging operation, but while most free standing chargers specify their charging rates in amps, WFCO specifies in volts (13.2, 13.6 & 14.4).

They will not go into the "bulk charge" rate unless the battery is below 50%.

I purchased a Black & Decker 40-amp Smart Charger and it will re-charge my batteries much faster than the charger from the WFCO Power Center.

Just for info: The 40-amp charger might be too much for some applications, particularly those with a single battery. It works well with my dual Trojan SCS225 batteries.

Thanks Glenn, still waiting to get full info from dealer on what exactly whatwill be put into the trailer from the factory. It will have two battery set up for sure.
