2000i and Easy Start

The Micro Air Easy Start flawlessly gets my Dometic 13,500 a/c running every time using the Honda 2000i on eco throttle. It's been a real blessing, but now that we're in 90° plus temps, while the a/c starts easily by the time the output air is approaching 60, the gen stumbles and the a/c electronics reset. The gen keeps running but now the a/c waits until the output air is 80 before the compressor kicks in again. This repeats and means that the a/c output air cycles between 60 and 80 - never cooling the TT. I don't have this problem when I put my 1000i in parallel with the 2000.

Bottom line, the Easy Start works to get the 13,500 going with the 2000i, but when things get really hot outside the 2000i isn't enough.

Try it with eco off. Mine performs better in that position when the A/C is really working hard.

Just to make sure this is understood, The AC starts and the gen ramps up throttle to handle load. At this point the microair is out of the picture as it only comes it at start of the compressor. Now compressor is running steady and gen is running steady with rpm staying up supporting constant load. As output air from AC approaches 60 degrees with compressor still steady (no cycling) and gen still running on high the gen stumbles for no reason. This is causing a power interruption causing the AC to cycle. At this time the gen probably slows down. Do I got this?

As the output air approaches 60, the generator starts to complain - tries to produce more power, eventually the a/c stops compressing and the gen slows down to supply power only for the fan. The compressor doesn't kick back in until the output air is about 80 - not sure this isn't just a timer that waits for a/c pressure to drop. Then compressor kicks in until the output air is about 60.

With the 1000i in tandem the output gets down to high 40's and at max cool the compressor kicks in about 65.

So how old is your Dometic? They have been getting a little better but nothing like a Coleman power saver. The Coleman PS 13500 will out cool just about any other 13500 while only drawing 10.2 amps on high and 9.8 amps on low. You can transfer the Microair to it for the startup support. Gen would probably only go step 2 on throttle.

Are other things running? This appears to be a case where you are on the edge of what your genny can handle.

My 13.5k ac pulls about 11 amps. The running watts of my EU2000i is 13 amps. It doesn't take much to go past 13.

Maybe you have been past 13 and the genny finally gave up. I'm not sure how long you can run in the 1,600 to 2,000 watt range.

I thought I'd solved the problem by paralleling the 2000 and 1000. But in 100 temps at Lake Powell the 1000 would often fault and I'd have to reset the whole system. With the a/c off, if I fired up the 1000 first it wouldn't go green. I forgot this once and left the 1000 running red when I fired up the 2000. As soon as the 2000 came to life the 1000 stopped like it had run out of gas. When I turned around the 1000 was engulfed in smoke. It was toast. I'll try a Champion 3100 remote start next.

The 1000 was 15 years old. Not sure it went south from the paralleling or it just died of old age?

This guy is a preferred seller with free shipping. Great additional support which you probably won't need as Champs are flawless and Champion support is awesome.

Paralleling the 2000 and 1000 should not have hurt anything. I know someone who does that all of the time. There is no "intelligent communication " between the generators, only alternating current via the cables. None of the generators know what brand or model of generator it is paralleling with.

I suspect either just old age (many hours) or plugging in the parallel cables when already running.

Another supplier

Hello All,

I've been searching various inverter generators as we're are planning on dry camping several times this summer, and the DW will need the A/C. I have a Coleman Mach 13.5 unit. I have checked the links you all attached, and I have seen another site with lower prices than both above links with free tax and shipping except Illinois. Looks like the sale is good for another few days. Anyway, just wanted to pass it along in case you haven't bought them yet. Happy camping everyone.
