2019 Rockwood 2507s: 30A or 50A

Just bought a used 2019 Rockwood 2507s and have an electrical question. The trailer has only a 30A 3-prong connector on the side of the trailer. When I connect this to a 30A external source all of the lights/water pump/etc work off the external electrical power, but the TV/Microwave/AC do not function. However, when I use a 50A/30A adaptor on the power cable and then plug into a 50A external source, then the microwave/TV/AC work.

Is this correct? It would seem to me that the trailer would have had a 50A 4-prong connector on this side of the trailer if 50A is required for these devices to work?

Can someone set me straight on this?

This may sound silly but did you check the 3amp breaker on the pedestal to ensure you were actually getting power there? When you use an adapter is still only provides one leg of power to your rig regardless of the amperage of the pedestal plug in. JMHO

Hmmmmm. No I did not (This is my first trailer………..I am really new to this!). You are referring to the breaker on the campground electrical pedestal?

Just to make sure I understand…….if my trailer only has a 30A connection…..then everything on-board should work with power from a 30A pedestal connection?

Since you said this is your first RV and you are new to this...Can you please post a pic of the electrical distribution panel inside the RV with the cover open to view the circuit breakers/fuses. We need to verify you have a 30 amp RV. The outside twistlock on a 50 amp RV also only has 3 "visible" prongs with the ground being on the side.

Let's start at the beginning and work forward. A pic of that electrical panel with it's circuit breakers will tell us this. Something like this example pic below:

Thanks

My next question is (after the electrical distribution panel), what exactly are you plugging into for either 30 amp power and/or 50 amp power via an adapter?

You are correct if its setup for 30 amps yes everything will run on 30 amps. I lean toward the camp pedestal is not supplying you the 30 amps you need.

Fantastic. Great pics and you do indeed have a 30 amp RV.

Ok, the problem probably does reside in the outlet your plugging into for shore power. Does this shore power pedestal have it's own circuit breaker at the pedestal for each connection?

The 30 amp outlet could have it's circuit breaker turned off or is tripped. Start there.

Thanks! I am no longer at the campground (home now)……..but am planning to take it to another campground this weekend. Will make sure I check the breakers on the pedestal…….and will report back if I still have the issue.

I really appreciate your help!

Bernie, since you're new to camping....

Make sure the circuit breaker on the campground power pedestal is OFF before plugging in your power cord. This prevents electrical arcing and preserves the contacts in the pedestal receptacle and on your male plug. Once plugged into the pedestal, turn the breaker ON.

When getting ready to leave the campground, turn the circuit breaker OFF before removing your power cord.

yeah, that's probably all it was that the pedestal outlet was turned off or bad. Since you stated you are new, this thread link is for you. It has a lot of questions that new RV owners need to know. Please read the one there called "Converter or Inverter, they are different". It will quickly explain your RV's electrical system.

https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...ts-157524.html

Also please please please read the one about installing a 30 amp outlet at your house (should you decide to do so in the future). It may save you a lot of grief and damage.

Bernie, although this link below is in the thread link I previously posted about, I'm going to post it separate here.

This is a link to a great site about RV electric. The author explains how to test campground pedestal outlets, which you should be doing as a best practice thing anyway.

They will tell you how to do this with a multimeter, or how to make a simple plug-n-play tester if you want.

It's all under the "outlet testing" tab at the webpage.
