30 or 50 amp

I ordered a new wolf pack 315 and didn't see where it was a 30 or 50 amp. I called and its 30amp. My question is do you think 30 amp is ok. We will run ac, 2 TVs, dish sat, and maybe microwave at most at same time if it can. Occasional hair dryer, fan at night, coffee maker in morning. This is second trailer for us and I haven't had trouble b4 but didn't have dish sat. Thanks and please educate me!

Hello, 30 amps will run all items. You might have to avoid the hotwater heater when running in hot weather if you want the Microwave, other than that it will work just fine, TV and Sat do not draw that much. I run my trailer with 30 amps and 15 K BTU AC unit as well.

Mark Polk has a fairly good article and approximation chart on how many amps a lot of common appliances use here. It may help and you can kinda add up what it all takes:

1500 watt Hair dryers and space heaters are also pretty big energy users (12.5 amps per and better). You may need to watch what else is on (and needs to be turned off) at the same time when using either/or

I've always used gas on hot water heater bc of recovery rate and fear of breaker tripping.

I'd be wary of running two ACs on 30 amps.

I may have missed something here? I saw where the OP discussed two televisions, but not two A/C's.

I would think any RV's with 2 air conditioners would be a 50 amp variety from the factory?

Are you sure its only 30a? We got our 315 in nov and its 50a.Does your power cord pull out or plug into the side of the trailer? # prong plg or 4?

I ordered it. Been 5 days since down payment. I didn't see where it had a 30 amp or 50 amp on order sheet. I selected a 15 ac unit. I called and asked and they said it was 30. Should I change it to 50 if possible? How do you like your unit? I am buying a few things each week for it and wondered which surge protector to get. I may wait until it arrives.

We didnt pick it up untill nov 20,2 days later we got 18" of snow,so we have not used it,but I do go in there and sit and savor the "new camper" smell! Our heat/air is ducted but the bedroom is wired for a 12k unit if we need it. I dont have a hardwired SP,but a Progressive ssp-50mostly because we got the stealer to throw it in the deal after we negotiated.

Well that brings up a good question, why would they prewire for a 2nd A/C if it wasn't 50 amp. I guess maybe because you can choose which one to run, but I never heard of that. Which really means nothing. Also why would the dealer throw in a 50 amp progressive for a 30 amp service?

I thought all of the larger trailers were pre wired and framed. All you have to do is cut the "plug " out of the roof and headliner and drop it in. My sons33' wildwood is that way too,but his is only 30a,so go figure!

Who did you talk to - dealer or Forest River? If dealer, RULE #1 about dealer salespeople - always assume they know nothing about your specific model.

Personally, I thought all of the WP 5ers were 50A. What good is having a toy hauler garage if you can't run a tool or two from time to time while the A/C is on in the cabin with DW making coffee? If it's 30A, and 50A is an option that's reasonably priced (usually is), I'd go with 50A every day.

Our 315 IS wired fo 50a. Its the OP asking if he needs 30 or 50.

Yes, have your dealer change the order to 50amp with 2nd A/C prep.

When your on a 50amp site, you'll have to do less power juggling and it makes it much easier to add a 2nd A/C should you decide you want one later.

30amp service is only 3600 watts.
50amp service is two 50amp feeds and so gives you 12,000 watts.

I see you are wondering about a surge protector. You may want to get a EMS type protector instead. A surge protector will not protect you against low voltage. Low voltage can destroy your ac unit however a EMS system will cut power to prevent that while a surge protector will not. They cost a little more but is well worth the cost.
