45 Amp Adapter

I was given on of these for free, has anyone used one? Seems it is cheating and getting a cheaper 30 amp site for your 50 amp 5er, before I use it I would ask the park owner.

They make dogbones that go directly from 50a to 30a because there are a lot of places that only offer 30a service. It's not cheating.

If anything, you're only cheating yourself because you aren't able to use your RV to it's fullest capabilities.

They also don't work with GFCI outlets. I bought one years ago because the 50A breaker was bad and it was a way to run our rig but it didn't work because of the GFCI ... dang it!

It's sitting in the basement of the house collecting dust.

What this is suppose to do is plugs into a 30 amp and 15 amp on the poll and make it 45 amps. By the reply above it may not work at all sites. One of those things you carry because you may need it but just adds to the weight of the 5er.

You might be able to fool the GFCI by using a 15 amp 3 prong to 2 prong (with external grounding lug) adapter. Not an electrician nor would I recommend it. But have been curious to know if it would work.

I just check Amazon description of the adapter and says it will NOT work with GFCI outlets. I haven't really paid that much attention to the 15 amp plugs but I bet most of them have GFCI since they are out door plugs.

They were handy several years back, but with most any RV pedistal at any park having a GFI now days ... they are a thing of the past. It'll trip the GFI instantly. Wiring around it isn't worth getting kicked out of the campground.

GFCI's work by watching for an imbalance between the hot and neutral legs not for current on the ground
