Ai-Power Generator at Costco

Has anyone had any experience with this new Yamaha powered generator at Costco ? Seems like a good deal . I'd love to hear some of your experiences with one of these . One thing that I found odd was that the parallel cables didnt seem to have a third ground wire in the pictures ??

Not sure what your comment was meant to imply as we can clearly see they are rated at a slightly higher DBA . But for $500 less money I'm sure some folks could deal with a little more noise . I have Hondas for my RV already I was thinking of something to take to hunting camp .

Really, what was your comment about the Parallel kit wires meant to Imply,as we can Clearly see those also! You are the one who ask the Questions! Youroo!! Maybe you should have Said "For Hunting Camp Use" in your post!

Initially I asked if anyone had any experience with one of these . YOU DID NOT need to reply with your negativity about DBA . Further more I mentioned the ground for the parallel connections because it seemed odd to me . Not only am I interested in one for hunting camp others here on the Forum may be interested for RV use .

10db is perceived as “ twice” as loud.
So, while 6db doesn’t sound like a lot, it really is quite a bit louder.

Good info !! I'm definitely no DBA expert and dont claim to be lol. I thought for me it would be good for use at hunting camp but also thought some folks here might be interested for RV use . I didnt realize how much louder that would actually be .

How can the FACTS posted in your first reply be seen as "negative"? They are just facts.

510Rick - FYI, I found an app for my iPhone a couple of years ago called Decibel 10 which you might find useful. They probably make it for other type phones as well. It is free and seems to be pretty accurate in measuring Db. It will also give you a comparative description of a reading such as similar to "loud talking in a room" or "riding mower", etc.

Actually, 6 db is twice the amplitude (twice as loud). Its a logarithmic scale and 20 db is 10 times as loud.

My father had one of these and it was a great little generator and IT wasn't that loud not much louder than the Honda 2000 we had. Don't know about the parallel connectors we never used more than one at a time

You can buy the well proven and loved Champion 2000w inverter generator for that price, at many vendors.
Amazon has it for less.

And it's much quieter than this Ai-power generator.

Sorry but there are a lot of quieter 2000w inverter generators out there now, priced the same.

6db louder is a big difference.

In a direct field or free field, the sound level (SPL) of a spherical wave decreases with doubling of the distance by (−)6 dB.

The sound pressure decreases in inverse proportion to the distance, that is, with 1/r from the measuring point to the sound source, so that doubling of the distance decreases the sound pressure to a half (!) of its initial value - not a quarter.

The sound intensity decreases inversely proportional to the squared distance, that is, with 1/r˛ from the measuring point to the sound source, so that doubling of the distance deceases the sound intensity to a quarter of its initial value.

And then there's

Many get confused when comparing Db's with loudness.

Db's (acoustic intensity-power) can be (and is) measured. (linear scale)

Loudness is a phenomenon. It is perceived.
It isn't something that can be measured and because everyone hears things differently, each person has their own unique level of perceived loudness.

This stuff can be so interesting. Light, and microwaves work the same way as well. Thing to remember is these measurements are from a point source, so imagine yourself in a large area like the middle of a football field that is completely silent except for your point source of sound and you are a given distance from that point. Some of the sound will radiate away from you because it is on the other side of the source. But, most of the time this isn't the case. We are in a campsite between campers and they reflect the sound and amplify it in the reflection (adding to the original sound from behind or beside the point source to the position where you are. As Willie (Shakespeare) would say "Aye, there's the rub!" Best way for sound is to listen to a comparison of the units (under exactly the same conditions) you are considering and let that be your guide. Also, remember the unit in the box may be different sounding than the unit on the display floor. Even more fun! But that's what camping is all about - exploring and learning.
