Awning LED strip dimming

Our awning LED strip has lost about 75% of its brightness. It periodically gets bright and later flickers out to a very low output. All the lights are still illuminated. I am assuming there is a short or water intrusion somewhere, since it works fine sometimes. I am still under warranty, but would rather fix it myself. Any common issues to address this? The posts I found address replacing the strip once lights start going out.

To know for sure if you have a failing LED strip, or a bad switch or wiring, you’d need to measure the voltage right at the wires connected to the strip. If you have approximately 12 volts, stable, at the beginning of the strip, then the strip is failing if it flickers. If the voltage there is low or unstable, check the wiring integrity back to the switch. Also verify the switch output is a stable 12 volts (nominal) when it’s on.

Here is the culprit. Very easy fix- but what shoddy work. Duct tape?
