battery

Good Morning, we just bought our first camper, 2020 forest river NO BO and absolutely love it,
I just installed a new battery and can't figure out what it actually powers .
Nothing comes on or works when disconnect switch is turned on.
Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't it power something on?
Thank You

Follow the red battery cable from the battery and you should find a re-settable fuse. Make sure it's not tripped.

The only things that should work on battery only are the lights, water pump, fridge on propane and maybe a TV if it's the 12V variety.

have you checked the fuses on your poser distribution panel? If you have a WFCO panel check the Reverse Polarity Fuses. Depending on your model WFCO it can be one to four fuses on the DC fuse board.

And the water heater on propane, fans, propane detector, & radio. Not any of the USBs, those are normally adapted from 120vac (unless on a dedicated 12VDC panel).

FWIW, All of our USBs are 12v from the panel.

battery

thanks,, I looked and all connections and fuses seem good, I wonder if there is a master switch somewhere??
Also it does come with a pre wired hook up for a solar panel, not sure if there is any connection or relevance to my battery
Thank you everyone

I would double check the battery connections
I inadvertently left one off
Was easy to miss as it dropped down behind

Troubleshoot with a multimeter
Start measure battery voltage
Then progress along the cable to the disconnect and then to the square little breakers near the disconnect
Measure the voltage at each spot by one probe on the negative frame an the other on each positive wire At the disconnect and breaker

Did you replace the original battery because nothing comes on?
Maybe there was nothing wrong with the original battery?
How was it tested?

If the battery was simply weak, then as suggested, maybe you missed putting a wire back on. You wouldn't be the first. Did you take a photo of the battery and the connections before replacing?

Do you have a multimeter and know how to use it?

The battery circuitry really isn't complicated but we are not there to see what might have happened. 5 minutes with a multimeter testing the battery and the circuits will take the guess work out of all this.

yeah it was definitely bad battery,, I do have voltmeter,, charged it for 2 days then lost charge down to 6 volts in 1 day,, So bought new one,, reads 12.4 volts from battery to cables at disconnect,, will look again..
will propane still cool fridge and freezer overnight if battery not working?
Thanks Mike

No. There is an electronic ignition on the refrigerators that lights the propane to operate the propane refrigerator (assuming that's what you have)
You need to plug your rig into shore power or get a couple of bags of ice to preserve your food til you get this figured out.

Not working at all? Like disconnected? Strongly doubt it.

Low but still some voltage? Maybe.

Your LP refrigerator needs 12v to operate the ignition and the controls.

Your battery, at 12.4 volts is not fully charged so I question whether you have a hefty draw draining it (such as a pulled electric brake breakaway pin) or whether you didn't start with a fully charged battery.

Regardless, you should have whatever the battery voltage, into your R/V.
You said you have 12.4 volts to the disconnect.
What do you have out of the disconnect?
If 12.4, do you have 12.4 volts at the power distribution box? (where the fuses are)

Final update

Good Morning, After much frustration and annoyance my issue has been solved
I used my multimeter and tested battery (good), Cables to disconnect(good),
then nothing after that.. It turns out the disconnect knob had to click past the right to turn on. Thought it was already all the way to right,LOL.
Anyway a very silly, first time camper inexpensive fix.
Just would like to say a huge thanks to all who chipped in with there thoughts, suggestions and reply's.
Happy trails
Mike

My multimeter found a new home in the trailer

Never leave without it

Mooch docking at brother in law,s house for couple of days
He swore his power outlets in garage were good
Nope….. I can stop swearing at the trailer

Yep, I think you can get a multimeter for as cheap as $8 at Harbor Freight. $20 will get you a decent one with digital display and much more functionality. Never own a RV without one.

You might want to consider replacing that switch assembly that responded a little strangely. I actually had one totally fail on a camper that was only 2 years old. At least think about buying a new one to carry with you just in case.

We were all sitting in the trailer just the other day when the power went out
Ground soaked from recent rains
Not at all too happy about having to go look underneath

Just for the heck of it twisted the outside disconnect
Woooooooo power came back

My theory is the outside switches not really weather proof an probably getting really funky
When I get home it’s on the to do list
move it inside and get a decent marine grade switch

If you're new to trailers, I highly recommend reading this forum regularly. You'll eventually learn everything you'll need to know, and probably prevent lots of issues by gaining knowledge ahead of time.

may not apply, but in my TT storage compartment is a master push and pull switch which shuts off all 12 v items except the slides. protects battery from parasitic draining when being stored.
