Battery charger and battery disconnect

My question is when I have my camper plugged in at home will my battery charge with the battery disconnect in the off position or does it have to be in the on position?

I would say no. It will not charge batteries if disconnect is off.

i think the opposite. I believe the battery disconnect is from the the house so batteries don;t discharge. I still think it;s connected to converter.

The battery gets its charge from the converter if you disconnect the line between them there's no way for the converter to charge batterys

You will still have 12v from converter to the camper but the batteries will not charge.

Your battery cables go from the battery to the converter if you put a battery disconnect in one of those cables the converter cannot charge the batterys when disconnected.
Therefore battery disconnect must be (connected) to charge.

As a general rule, they are not factory-supplied, and you need to add your own.

In fact, it's something that I yet need to accomplish, or get that three-stage converter replacement.

Decisions, decisions......

Confirmed with the electrical engineer...

The disconnect isolates the batteries from the converter (so everything), except for what is right there at the Battery Control Center. They will not charge from the convertor if the disconnect is engaged. However we did confirm that they will get a trickle charge from the alternator since that does not run through the converter.

Wait a minute Lone Ranger, so far I'm the only one that has had the nerve to lay claim to the moniker, "Old Fart." I haven't entered into this conversation so you need to re-consider that statement. My DW still lets me out of the house alone.

Not to steal the moniker " OLD FART" just using it in the general context of things. My DW lets me out alone too, but I believe she secretly had a micro chip and gps, implanted in my neck... I get this tingling sensation in my neck when I stop at the old watering hole.

This is due to the "BIRD" only used in motorhomes.

It is a Bi-Directional Isolation Relay Manual and schematic attached (see page 4). With the ignition on and the engine running (alternator providing power) the isolation relay closes and provides charging current to the house battery.

Note: In this case power is only allowed INTO the battery; not out if the disconnect is enabled.

As to the moniker "Old FART" - I may be the only member of the forum who is ACTUALLY an Old Fart.

As a retired Federal Air Reserve Technician (FART); I am indeed an old FART.
