Battery charger fan
Not sure what's going on here???
That's being pretty weird.
I've been living in our trailer for the last three weeks while working out of town for a bit. It's been plugged into shore power for the whole time. Never heard it do this before.

Just figured out there's two of them, and they're doing the exact same thing in tandem, so doubtful it's an issue with the fan.

that is certainly odd. I'm assuming there is a thermostat that controls those fans so perhaps it is malfunctioning. Are you seeing any power fluctuations or anything in the trailer?

Should be the converter fan trying cool it down from it trying to charge bad batteries.

The fan on our WFCO converter will occasionally fire up for no apparent reason, even with the batteries disconnected. If I turn all the lights out, it will quit. Turn the lights back on and it's quiet. Could be just a sensitive creature...

On the WFCO converter the fan is controlled by DC amp draw. On the Progressive Dynamics it is controlled by temperature. With the WFCO roughly 3 amps would be low speed, 5-9 draw medium and 12-15 high. This is why you seldom hear the fans come on with a Progressive Dynamics converter.

How do you tell what type of converter it is! The fan power cords go back to a digital board, so the whole thing appears to be digitally controled

Open the door on your distribution panel and it will give you the name and model number. When I had my Flagstaff TT the fan would come on often and I found it very annoying. I have yet to hear the fan on my Progressive Dynamics.

Is this a good unit then?? It's been trouble free since we bought the trailer new in '14

You will get hundreds of opinions on the WFCO. I would estimate at least 80% of the Forest River products use them so the percentage of failures is probably low. It is made in China and the Progressive is made in the U.S.
The Progressive Dynamics, in my opinion, is a better converter, mainly because it is a 4 stage which seems to help prevent the batteries from sulfating and you can select the charging modes. And of course it is quieter.

Check the batteries condition. Best would be with a hydrometer.

These two (at least) guys are right. I had this issue and the battery tested OK at Wal*Mart BUT the hydrometer showed the battery had failed. New battery solved this "running fan" issue. This is not necessarily a converter issue.
