Red face Battery Compartment Venting

How much venting is required for batteries?

My battery area is in the front of my Puma next to the left landing gear. The landing gear has open space around it and just back of that is the left Propane bottle that sets on a steel brace with the whole bottom under it is open.

I am in the process of changing out the single 12v car battery someone had in there with a nice pair of 6v golf cart batteries. In doing this I found a problem.

First it took me a week to find someone that sells 1-3/4 vent hose like is in my 5ver and then I still have not found any Tee or 90° fittings to connect the vents from my boxes to the existing vent. Once I get the new hose I will have to make some fittings to put it all together.

So the bottom line is I am leaving on a 2 day trip this weekend will the open area about the landing gear and propane bottle be enough venting?

Thanks

You have any pictures? They are all different.........but mine has so much air around it in that compartment that I don't see why any additional venting would be needed.

If you need something to go in that hole and connect to the hose, see if you can find a hose for small shop vac an cut a piece 3-4" long. I'm talking about the the hard plastic part.

I looked at those then went to Lowes and I may be able to use 1" PVC tee and I have a sheet of thin silicone rubber that I can wrap around and use RTV to clue it down but I am not sure if I can get the hose before I leave Friday morning for the weekend.

I have called all over looking for the 1-3/4 hose and fittings, I even called the folks that make the little grill things that go on the outside and all the lady could tell me is that they just make the covers.

I even called Puma but they have not called back since Friday morning.

In a pinch for the 1-3/4" tee you can use 1-1/2" barbed plastic water line tee's and a stainless hose/worm clamp.
The hose will be a little loose on the tee but the hose clamp will tighten enough to work for venting purposes.

Available everywhere.

Lowes has a sump pump discharge hose that worked for me when I relocated my battery.

Thanks, my hose did come in and I found some 1" PVC fittings that with about 2 wraps of heavy electrical tape should seal the hose better that what the factory did by just putting 2 screws through the hose to hold it on.

I will go pick up the battery cable to connect the 2 batteries here in a bit and then plumb the hoses up, that will be the proof in the pudding.
