Reasoning, if the frame is left connected to the battery negative, contact between an energized positive conductor and any piece of the frame will result in a short circuit. Not the case with negative disconnected.

It's a circuit. Remove one terminal, it's no longer part of the circuit. Electrons cannot magically jump to remake the circuit. If you are on shore power, that's different, but we're just talking battery power. I installed a disconnect switch on the single ground wire connecting the batteries to the rest of the RV. I've shorted positive to the body accidentally while wrenching - not good.
I also trailer the 5er with the batteries connected, but have to connect anyway to raise the jacks.
