Battery question
I was given a new RV battery and need to know if it is "better" than what I have now.
1 yr old : worldwide battery 24d new: autozone duralast 24md-dc
old: 12 volt new: 12 volt
old: 625 mca new: 685 mca
old: 120 min reserve new: 140 min reserve
old: 80 amp hours new: 85 amp hours
both are "RV/marine deep cycle" batteries. I don't dry camp if that helps.
thanks

From the specs the "new" one is better.

The difference is marginal and, if you don't dry camp, it won't make any difference whatsover IMO.

Not true in my opinion. The one with slightly better stats is a YEAR younger than the one tentcamper has. Younger is better by definition.
Even if you never dry camp, the younger battery will last longer before it needs to be replaced.
You could also make a 2 battery cell. Although not matched (optimum configuration), you would significantly increase your staying power if you had to dry camp for a weekend.

it would be nice to have both batteries, only problem is its a vlite and no good place to put them. I think I will put the new one in and keep the other one just in case. this year I want to keep the trailer plugged in at the house in between trips- do you see any issues with that? it will be on the 20 amp house circuit - I only want to do this so I can keep the fridge running. I usually plug it in 2 days before to get the fridge cool and charge the battery.
thanks

Check your paperwork on the camper and make sure you have a three stage converter. If so, no worries at all.
If you have a two stage converter, then buy a "battery tender" to use to trickle charge the battery. Disconnect the battery from the camper when you plug the camper in and plug the battery tender into the camper.
That way the fridge will run on AC and the battery will be kept charged by the battery tender.
Again, if you have a three stage converter it has a tender function built in as one of the stages.

You are all set. Just check the water level in your battery every so often. Wear junky clothes and safety goggles as I seem to get a splash once in a while popping the caps off.
