Battery users manual

Found this while searching alternate energy sites. Lots of useful info on battery maintenance, should be applicable to most battery makes I believe.

Good reference. I like this table for determining state of charge through resting open voltage readings, but noticed it is only valid for a single 12v battery. Need to find one for 6volts in series.http://www2.exide.com/Media/files/Lo...2011_13_15.pdf

I noticed that as well, however I think the logic might be to have 2 - 6's in series, and use the table for the 12 volt.

Aren't 12 V batteries essentially just two 6 V batteries in series sharing the same outside case? In actuality, both are just 2 V batteries in series, the 6 V a package of three "cells" and the 12 V six.

Only real variable as I see it is what the manufacturer decided to use for a starting specific gravity of the electrolyte.

logically yes. I don't understand why mfr would say the figures were only for a single 12v. Maybe minor differences in voltages due to resistance of cables connecting individual batts.
