Can someone recommend deep cycle 6 volt batteries

My wife and I are just beginning full-time living in a Cardinal 3825fl. We had issues setting it up because the batteries were weak and could barely run the hydraulic auto-leveling landing gear. Today I removed the batteries and the caps and saw they are mostly dry. Whoever purchased them never marked the date of purchase, so we don't know how old they are. The Cardinal is a 2016 and the twin 6 volt batteries are Interstate Deep Cycle Extreme GC2-XHD-UTL, 122 min. @ 75 Amps. 232 AH. They are wired in series. We were going to drive to a small town tomorrow, about 25 miles from here and purchase two new batteries at a Walmart. Any suggestions?

You might not have much choice in a small town. Sam's carries Duracell GC2 6V batteries but I don't think Walmart does, especially a smaller Walmart. If there is none a local car repair place may help you find a nearby battery dealer. They'll almost certainly have GC2 batteries. If you're typically in places with shore power you don't need super-gee-whiz batteries but they do need to run your equipment when you need it.

Maybe there's hope for the OP to replace theirs.

We are driving to Longview, Washington in the morning, but if we have to, we can rive further, to Vancouver, Washington or Portland, Oregon.

If you find a Napa Auto, they have good GC2 batteries. Mine are 8 years old and still going strong.

Costco is an excellent source for those batteries at the best price, but you need to be a member or have a friend that is a member...

Then we have a decision to make. We are living on an island (Puget Island) in the middle of the Columbia River, about halfway between Astoria, Oregon and Longview, Washington. Only Astoria has a Costco, but to get off the island to Oregon, we'd have to take the ferry that only runs once each hour and charges $6. The trip to Longview only requires us to drive over a bridge through Cathlamet, and then drive 25 miles to Longview, where there are two Walmarts.

I just called both Walmarts and they are out of stock. I'm waiting a couple of minutes for United Battery to open to check with them. If they don't have them, it looks like we will be taking a ferry ride to Oregon and drive to Astoria.

If you don't need them immediately how about delivery from numerous online retailers?

Does UPS deliver? How about Amazon?

If possible it sure beats driving (with ferry rides) all over the place to find what you need.

Core charges! Ordering online means you eat the core charges. Buying direct means you can recover them.

True but sometimes a tank of fuel used to search and pick up exceeds the cost of the core charge.

Estimated cost for operating a 1/2 ton pickup is now $0.55-$0.60 per mile when you take into consideration ALL expense. (Fuel, Maintenance, Wear on Tires, Brakes, etc).

Knowing where the OP lives it's not beyond the possibility he could end up with a 100 mile trip (with ferry fare added) just to obtain the batteries he needs. Maybe even more as Portland, OR is 77 miles one way from Puget Island.

Something to consider.

Usually living on an island, it would be a No. But there are 3 to choose from within 20-25 minutes.

See if there is a golf cart supplier in the area where you are. I bought and recommend Trojan brand from golf cart company. I think they are T105 for $163 ea. They are 225amp hr batteries. Trojan didn’t list them as a seller but they were a major golf cart supplier in the Albany NY area.

If you are anywhere neat a Batteries + Bulbs, I've had great luck with mine, and the price is good. I bought the 230 AH models as a compromise between size/weight/price.

I'll get hammered for this by the 6v crowd but if you are living full time on an island and connected to power there's no reason to not consider a 12v battery or batteries in parallel.

The converter is going to do all the work plugged in.

If you don't have an electric hook up then do what you feel is best.

Very true, unless you plan on boondocking or being without power for a long time, a simple 12V marine dual use should work fine and be readily available.
