Champion Open frame inverter
Looking at these. Show noise level 64 Dba.
Anyone using these. We would be using in federal campgrounds

if your out on National forest away from others go for it . in camp ground either national or forest service or state it maybe considered loud . some are real nit-picks . others won't mind . depends on the who and where .

The maximum noise level allowed is seldom quiet enough for other campers.
The good news is that sound level diminishes as distance increases.
If camping within 100 feet of another campsite my guess is that it will be considered an annoyance by fellow campers but not subject to any fine.

I am also looking at Generators. I have a Champion 1400 watt unit I use from the back of my UTY. I have discovered that they have great customer service. So Champion is my choice. And they are reasonably priced.
As to your question. In my research you may find that the noise level may be too much for you. Forget your neighbors 
The difference in sound level between say 70 db and 50 db is four times louder.
Just an FYI. Your mileage may vary.

the rated difference is 59 Enclosed to 64 open frame and about $400 diff

64 Db sounds suspect for an open frame generator. I'd guess in real usage it would be significantly louder. If boondocking and the noise won't bother you, go for it. If you're in a campground, you'll likely have unhappy neighbors...

It's really a hybrid open frame/inverter. Not a true open frame type and not a true enclosed inverter type. (they make several models/wattages but all are rated at 64 DB - until you get above 6kw)
I heard one of these running for the first time last month. At first, I thought it to be pretty quiet... until a load was put on it... not so much then.

I have found that a lot of them don't really care about my happiness. We prob would not use much. My wife glamps but like last week we lost power fro 2 days and we could have stayed in camper. I have a generator but not inverter. Concerned about frying camper electronics

The hybrid Champion is only 1 decibel quieter than the basic Champion 3500w open frame contractor-style generator that only costs $300.
I own one of those and there's NO way I would use it in a campground. Boondocking or dispersed camping, sure!
That hybrid Champion is definitely not quiet, like its regular inverter siblings.
BIG noise difference between 64db and 54db.

don't know id 3000w is enough fro AC and other

I run a 13,500 bty AC on my Champion 3500W inverter (closed and quiet) as well as the microwave.
I had a 3500 W open frame which was a lot quieter than most open frame generators but not really campground friendly.
The enclosed Inverter is more than quiet enough for campground use and for battery charging it will run on "Eco Mode" which is very quiet (for a generator).

64 Db at what distance and load? That is the real question. At 100' and 0 load it is not that great. Regardless of brand, a lot of folks keep their genny in the truck bed (myself included) and you literally cannot hear it running. Of course that depends on the generator.

Yup. I'll run the AC and water heater for a while. Once the water is hot I will turn that off and can use the microwave.

My understanding is that sound levels are measured on a logarithmic scale. So 60 decibels would be 10 times the sound of 50 decibels. And 70 decibels would be 100 times the sound of 50 decibels. Really think OP would be happier with an enclosed inverter generator. I agree that champion is a reasonable option.

Yes, an increase from 50db to 70db is 100 times the sound pressure, but is perceived as 4 times louder to the human ear.
